They hoist the boat into storage positon and they lower the lifeboat until the boat reaches the water surface. They consist usually of two davit arms with ropes and hooks. Hoisting of the boat including a small crew by means of a built-on winch.

Embarkation is done in stowed position, or in lowered position (using a bowsing system to make the boat touch the ship side).

Shape and concept of the davit arms will differ a lot in accordance to the needs of deck situation. In any case they shall work at worst case condition which is defined by applicable class:
